Welcome to the third edition of AOSpine Faculty Focus.

In this issue we have several stories emphasizing skills and practical knowledge you can use in your regular teaching.

AOSpine has always adopted new technologies for their

medical education. One such successful tool is the “webinar” where the instructor and his audience communicate interactively online. We show how a webinar works, additionally, Professor Jörg Auer from AOVET shares some of his experiences as a webinar presenter.

Again, we would like to promote the usefulness of the online AOSpine faculty center,  a diverse repository for Faculty involved in organizing courses. Here you can access information, checklists and other tools for course preparation, execution and follow-up.

Looking for a refresher on how to maximize the effectiveness of your next lecture? In “10 tips for lecturers” you’ll find directions for creating closure and other tips to sharpen your presentation and engage your audience.

Have you ever wondered about the unique educational needs of surgeons practicing in small community hospitals? So has Piet de Boer. In his video talk, he shares highlights of his new book “Continuing Professional Development in community hospitals: A study of different needs and preferences”.

And last but not least peek into the future: Our feature article offers a window into the growing use of simulation technology in medical education, together with an interview with one of the leading experts in the field.

Enjoy the issue!
