Helping Faculty to manage
the Future

Welcome to the second edition of AOSpine's FacultyFocus. General feedback regarding our first issue has been very positive, with readers indicating that due to the electronic format it is very easy to share information. This type of feedback is very important to us: How can we make this publication better? What did you like, and are we on target?

Helping Faculty

In this issue we look at a number of topics that focus on how we might help faculty in the future. One example is the Training for Chairpersons (T4C). Another story covers the AO Education Institute's goal to align faculty development curricula across all clinical divisions, an ongoing process which will lead to positive change. In addition, commission members and other representatives met in Cartagena, Columbia to discuss the potential of adopting the Continuing Education Program (CEP), developed by AOSpine Latin America, for other regions.

Embracing the future

We are excited about the future and the possibilities it holds for our educational activities. An example of this can be found in the story "Trends in Medical Education" a special webinar monitored by US education specialist Joseph Green, PhD. One of those trends is definitely MOOCS, massive open online courses, which might not only change how we teach and learn but also the concept of "university".

And last, I would like to welcome the new Chairperson of the AOSpine Education Commission. My own term has ended and I am pleased to pass the reigns to Mike Grevitt from the UK. Elected earlier this year, he has told me about his ambitious agenda for the Commission, which I know is looking forward to working under his focused and experienced leadership.
