The AO Davos Courses 2020 has made a COVID-19 pandemic assisted leap into the future and will be based on new virtual learning formats. "Virtual Davos" combines the best online learning opportunities and caters for flexible learning styles and options for learning at your own pace.

In addition to the one in-person course on Cervical Degenerative, we offer five fully online courses on Adult Deformity, Thoracolumbar Trauma, MISS, Endoscopy, and Surgeon Leadership. True to AO Spine mission, AO Davos Courses brings together world-leading faculty for live sessions and case discussions, and allows you to meet the experts, discuss your cases with key opinion leaders and peers from around the world, and make lifelong friends.

The first part of the virtual events will cover fundamentals and theory of the topic over six weeks, starting from October 26, 2020. Expected learning time for the first part is 3 to 4 hours per week. The second part will be a virtual face-to-face course, from December 3–6, 2020. Participants need prepare to be online 3 hours per day over four days. The virtual face-to-face courses will include live case discussions, interactive exercises, and demonstrations. In addition, prerecorded videos with patients will be shared for discussion.

The in-person Cervical Degenerative course will be further augmented with hands-on skills labs in Davos. "With detailed understanding of anatomy, operative techniques, and how to utilize available tools, successful and safe outcomes can be achieved for these challenging cases," Chairperson for the Cervical Degenerative course Luca Papavero says.

Teija Lund

The newly developed course on Surgeon Leadership addresses the specific non-technical needs of emerging leader surgeons entering practice and surgeons already in leader roles. "The course will help surgeons acquire competencies needed for becoming a successful leader in a clinical setting, to successfully implement a shared vision and lead your team to accomplish it," Chairperson Teija Lund says.
