Congratulations to AOSpine young investigators Kajana Satkunendrarajah and Spyros Karadimas
The team, led by principal investigator Dr Michael Fehlings, published its findings in the journal Nature in a paper titled “Cervical excitatory neurons sustain breathing after spinal cord injury.” Their study finds a new approach that could help to restore breathing following traumatic spinal cord injury.

Kajana Satkunendrarajah is a former post doc and current Scientific Associate in the Fehlings lab who has been funded for the work in the Nature paper by an AOSpine North America Young Investigator Award.
Spyros Karadimas is a research fellow and recently graduated PhD student in the Fehlings lab who previously won an AOSpine North America Fellows research award in Banff.
