to join their colleagues at the 'Fellowship Corner' in the AOSpine booth to meet and network with their peers. Special e poster monitors will be on site to allow all Past Fellows who had their abstracts accepted at the GSC to showcase their work and discuss with their contemporary's.

Also on Friday 5th May we have two 'Past Fellows Only' sessions in room Yellow 2:

10:30am – 11:30am - 'Past Fellows Research Session'. This is a networking session providing

a platform for researchers to share their current projects and proposals, encouraging further development and collaboration. Past Fellows will

be presenting their research papers looking for collaborators and guidance from you! You can also learn how to get more involved with AOSpine Research and ask questions directly to the current AOSpine Europe Research Officer.

Following these sessions at 7pm until 8pm in 'Reception Room 3' we have the Past Fellows Reception where we will be launching the new Past Fellows Alumni Association. This group is still in

its infancy and we encourage all Past Fellows to join the social event to ensure the success of this venture. This association is being created for all Past Fellows to join and we are looking for people to guide the strategy and help create a global network of Past Fellows.

I truly believe that with the help of the AOSpine great improvements in spine care are possible. Many of us are trying very hard to balance having a family and developing

a great carrier. Using the AOSpine network many of us can work together to produce collaborations in many different fields of spine care: degenerative, trauma, infection and tumor.  Thereby we can explore regional differences in decision-making, surgical preference, surgical outcome and postoperative patient care. Because of my Arabic heritage and my training in Germany, I think that

I will be able to understand and better communicate the different requests of all AOSpine members.

I can promise every member that

I will answer their requests on the same day and try my best to advocate for their request on the international board.

Jamlick Micheni Muthuuri

There are doctors who spend their entire lives caring for others; preventing disease and fighting disease when it scourges others.

Yet Africa has found it hard to fulfill the eight Millennium Development Goals which range from halving extreme poverty rates to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS all by the target date of 2015. Despite the world galvanizing unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest, none of these goals have been achieved. Apart from a few countries in Africa, specialized health care remains a pipe dream. A lot of

work needs to be done and resources sought not only to train specialists but also to facilitate them with the tools necessary for safe delivery of these services. Finally

as an individual, I have benefited from the kindness of others, the

AO Foundation and now the AOSpine group.
